Limpopo Tourism Agency commits to Golf Tourism

Release Date: 2012-08-22

The milestone event involved the five key golf estates in Limpopo (Zebula Golf Estate & Spa, Elements Private Golf Reserve, Koro Creek Golf Estate, Euphoria Golf Estate & Hydro and Legend Golf & Safari Route) who have appointed PelePele Travel & Marketing as their industry representative to work alongside Limpopo Tourism Agency. PelePele Travel & Marketing will function as LTA’s specialist golf and safari marketing arm and promote the Limpopo Golf & Safari Route both domestically and internationally.

Back in 2009, Limpopo Tourism Agency and the Limpopo Economic, Development Environment and Tourism Department (LEDET) identified six key tourism clusters critical to drive tourism into the Province. Golf was and remains one of the key clusters and hence the collaboration with the key golf estates in the province began and The Limpopo Golf & Safari Route was born. The official launch took place in 2009 with a media and international tour operator contingency and since then the Route has made its mark as a brand and started to grow in popularity.

Seipati Tlaka, Acting CEO of Limpopo Tourism Agency and Mashilo Matsetela, Chairperson of the Board, were also present on the day and expressed their enthusiasm over the formalisation of the partnership and the collaboration between the public and private sector. Tlaka commented: “We have just launched our Domestic Umbrella Campaign, with slogan "It`s Here... Tour with us, Play with us, Celebrate with us" and the golf elements fit perfectly in both our domestic and international marketing strategies going forward.

The key selling point of the Route is playing golf alongside wildlife which is unique to Africa and especially to South Africa. Nowhere else in the world can you tee off next to a zebra and then after your round of golf, view the Big 5 from your game drive vehicle! The warm year round weather, value for money aspect, dining under the stars and unique experiences at each resort such as an Elephant back safari, teeing off from the highest and longest par 3 in the world and a cable car ride are some of the reasons why more and more locals and internationals are traveling north to Limpopo.

Key projects planned for this year include exhibiting at the largest golf trade show in the world, the International Golf Travel Market taking place in Portugal from the 15th - 18th November 2012.
