Message from the Senior General Manager: Environment and Tourism

The Limpopo Provincial Government has over the last eight years identified three key engines for economic development, namely Mining, Agriculture and Tourism. Tourism is therefore a key focus where clusters have been recognized to attract tourists to witness the beauty and majesty of what our Province has to offer.

The last decade has seen the opening of world class golf resorts in our Province and we are now at an exciting point where we are proud to boast some of the most beautiful, challenging and premier golf courses in South Africa, all within close proximity to each other. This together with the wildlife and game offering, creates a unique golf and game experience that is available primarily in our Province and no where else in the world. This “golf and game cluster” is thus key in attracting golfers both locally and internationally, doubling the inbound tourists to the Province.

They key to the success of this initiative is the collaboration of our department with the four resorts to create one offering, highlighting the power of destination marketing and a single vision. After months of discussions, we are now at the point where we can launch the package locally and internationally, offering attractions such as unlimited golf and cart hire at each resort together with two big 5 safaris.

We are proud to be associated with the Limpopo Golf & Safari package for internationals as well as the Waterberg Golf & Game package for locals and look forward to witnessing the success of this tourism growth strategy not only during the biggest soccer event in our country in 2010, but for many years to come.
